Why FLT Academy Calls the SportCruiser a “Game Changer”

At FLT Academy, we proudly refer to the Sport Cruiser as the “Game Changer” — and for good reason. This sleek, modern aircraft combines impressive fuel efficiency with advanced flight technology, making it a top choice for student pilots. Equipped with a full glass cockpit featuring Dynon SkyView touch screen avionics, the Sport Cruiser also includes a redundant Garmin navigation system, full autopilot capabilities, and a built-in ballistic parachute for added safety and peace of mind.

Pilots-in-training love the Sport Cruiser’s spacious cockpit, ergonomic layout, and panoramic visibility — all of which enhance comfort and confidence in the air. As a low-wing, light-sport aircraft, the Sport Cruiser is easy to handle yet advanced enough to prepare students for more complex aircraft as they progress through their flight training.

Originally introduced in 2006 by Czech Sport Aircraft, the Sport Cruiser is a two-seat, single-engine aircraft that delivers both performance and reliability. With a cruising speed of 107 mph and a top speed of 140 mph, it strikes an ideal balance between speed and fuel economy. The aircraft’s range reaches approximately 590 statute miles (or 515 nautical miles), making it well-suited for cross-country flights and endurance-building training missions.

Whether you’re starting your private pilot training or building flight hours toward your career, the Sport Cruiser offers an exceptional platform for learning to fly.

DID YOU KNOW?

The SportCruiser did a brief stint as the Piper Sport. Despite the name change when the plane was marketed by Piper Aircraft in 2010, it’s essentially the same craft. The Piper Aircraft partnership with Czech Sport Aircraft only lasted one year before CSA once again took back the SportCruiser controls.
