Steps to Flight school Enrollment

Are you ready to fly with FLT Academy?

Thank you for considering FLT Academy, Utah’s leading provider of career-focused flight training!  With campuses in both Woods Cross and Spanish Fork, we offer high-quality instruction, structured programs, and an unbeatable value for students pursuing a future in aviation.

The first step in the application process is to meet with a Program Advisor.   This one-on-one consultation gives you the chance to explore our program options, airline partnerships, and training approach so you can decide if FLT Academy is the right fit for your goals and timeline.

Our checklist will help you keep track of what you need to do for the enrollment process.

Financing Flight School

The cost of flight training can vary depending on your prior experience, the type of training you’re pursuing, and how far you plan to go in your aviation journey.  FLT Academy advisors are here to help you understand your options.  We’re happy to provide custom training estimates, explain program structures, and answer any questions you may have about the training process.

However, please note that FLT Academy does not offer financial advising.   If you plan to finance your training, you’ll need to speak directly with your chosen lender.  Only the lender can provide accurate information about interest rates, loan terms, approval criteria, and repayment plans.  We strongly encourage all students seeking financing to schedule an appointment with their lender to fully understand their options.

FAA First Class Medical Certificate

All pilots need to be medically cleared before enrolling in our Wasatch Front flight school. To obtain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate, follow these steps:

  • Familiarize yourself with the medical conditions and medications that can disqualify you from obtaining a First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Create a profile and fill out the FAA MedXpress Application HERE.
  • Once you have completed the FAA MedXpress application, find an Aviation Medical Examiner HERE. Under “Designee Types,” select AME from the drop-down menu.

Appointments for medical certificates may be booked weeks out, so keep that in mind when applying for FLT Academy. The cost of the appointment is not included in the estimate for flight school.

Drug Screening Test

To be eligible to attend FLT Academy, prospective students must complete and pass a Panel 5 or higher drug test. The cost of the appointment is not included in the estimate for flight school.

Non-Owner Aviation Renters Insurance

Flight students need a $10,000 flight insurance policy to be enrolled. You can obtain non-owner aviation renters insurance from a variety of providers. FLT suggests looking into the following:

This required insurance policy is not part of the estimate for flight school costs.

Disclaimer: This is NOT required to be in place until a student has been accepted to FLT Academy and assigned a training start date

other Necessary Paperwork

In addition to having your financial aid, drug test results, and proof of insurance paperwork, copies of the following must be provided for enrollment in FLT Academy:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Passport, Birth Certificate, or Permanent Residency Card
  • Criminal Background History Report
  • Driving Record (MVR)

If you have previous flying experience, a copy of your current pilot license and three pages of your most recent logbook is also required. Any costs incurred to obtain this paperwork are not included in the estimate for overall flight school tuition costs.
