Steps to Flight school Enrollment

Thank you for considering Utah-based FLT Academy as your flight school. Our extensive offerings include professional instruction at a great value for students. There are several steps to follow when applying for FLT Academy, whether you plan to attend in Woods Cross or Provo, Utah.
The first step is to meet with a program advisor to learn about FLT Academy’s benefits, airline partnerships, programs, and more to ensure we’re the best fit for you and your goals!
The following checklist will help you keep track of what you need to do for the enrollment process.
Financing Flight School
Costs of obtaining licensing can vary based on prior experience or ratings, what kind of training you are looking for, and how far you want to go with your training. Our advisors are happy to provide you a custom training estimate based on your goals! Please reach out to an advisor to receive your training quote
Attending flight school may require that you secure financial aid. FLT Academy offers the following financing options:

FAA First Class Medical Certificate
All pilots need to be medically cleared before enrolling in our Wasatch Front flight school. To obtain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate, follow these steps:
- Familiarize yourself with the medical conditions and medications that can disqualify you from obtaining a First Class Medical Certificate.
- Fill out the FAA MedXpress Application HERE.
- Find an Aviation Medical Examiner via the FAA HERE. Under “Designee Types,” select AME from the drop-down menu.
Appointments for medical certificates may be booked weeks out, so keep that in mind when applying for FLT Academy. The cost of the appointment is not included in the estimate for flight school.
Drug Screening Test
To be eligible to attend FLT Academy, prospective students must complete and pass a Panel 5 or higher drug test. The cost of the appointment is not included in the estimate for flight school.
Non-Owner Aviation Renters Insurance
Flight students need a $10,000 flight insurance policy to be enrolled. You can obtain non-owner aviation renters insurance from a variety of providers. FLT suggests looking into the following:

Disclaimer: This is NOT required to be in place until a student has been accepted to FLT Academy and assigned a training start date
Necessary Paperwork
In addition to having your financial aid, drug test results, and proof of insurance paperwork, copies of the following must be provided for enrollment in FLT Academy:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Passport, Green Card, or Birth Certificate
- Criminal Background History Report
- Driver’s License Record
If you have previous flying experience, a copy of your current pilot license and three pages of your most recent logbook is also required. Any costs incurred to obtain this paperwork are not included in the estimate for overall flight school tuition costs.
